Shockwave Therapy for Foot Pain

What is Shockwave Therapy for Foot Pain?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, safe and effective treatment option for foot pain, and particularly for chronic conditions such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy. It promotes increased blood flow, stimulates healing, tissue repair, and relieves pain.

Shockwave therapy works by stimulating blood flow to the area, causing the body to stimulate the repair and regeneration of cells. Damaged or injured tissues then begin to repair and cause the associated pain to reduce.

If you have scar tissue in the area that is contributing to the pain, shockwave therapy will also help to break down this thick, fibrous tissue. Scar tissue causes immobility in the surrounding tissues as it is not as elastic as normal tissues. Breaking it down using sound waves improves mobility and reduces discomfort.

Our Initial Assessment Process

An initial assessment at our clinics allows our physiotherapists to understand your medical history, perform a physical examination, functional assessment, as well as pain and movement assessment. This way, we can understand the root cause of your pain and treat it to prevent it from recurring in the future.

We understand that no two injuries are the same, and so we design a treatment plan that caters to your goals and lifestyle. Typically, three to five shockwave therapy sessions are required to observe a significant difference. However, the number of sessions is dependent on how quickly your body responds, how long you have had the symptoms and how severe the pain is.
